La Jaguar E-Type fête ses 50 ans

Jaguar et les différents clubs qui, partout dans le monde, réunissent les amoureux des voitures de la marque au félin, s'apprêtent à fêter les 50 ans de la légendaire E-Type. C'est au mois de mars 1961 en effet, que le constructeur britannique a présenté la E-Type au Salon de Genève.

La conférence de presse a eu lieu au Parc des Eaux Vives et la présentation du modèle a été faite par Sir William Lyons en personne, le fondateur de la marque. La voiture a d'emblée suscité l'enthousiasme. Les journalistes se sont rués sur les responsables de la marque pour demander un essai. Pour répondre à la demande, William Lyons a fait venir immédiatement une voiture supplémentaire depuis l'Angleterre. Le pilote d'essai de la marque, Norman Dewis, a ainsi relié Coventry à Genève de nuit, pied au plancher.

La Jaguar E-Type a aujourd'hui accédé au statut d'icône et est exposée en permanence au Museum of Modern Art de New-York. D'après Ian Callum, l'actuel responsable du style Jaguar, l'E-Type reste toujours, pour lui et son équipe, une inépuisable source d'inspiration.

Le 50ème anniversaire du modèle sera fêté avec le faste requis lors de différents événements comme le Concours d'Elégance de Pebble Beach, le Festival of Speed de Goodwood, le Nürburgring Old Timer Grand Prix et, surtout, le Silvestone Classic qui aura lieu du 22 au 24 juillet, et où plus de 1 000 E-Type sont attendues.

European Motor Show Brussels 2011 /// Jaguar au Dream Cars for Wishes

Jaguar sera de la partie lors de l'expo "Dream Cars for Wishes" qui se tiendra le week-end des 22 et 23 janvier au Palais 11 avec ses XKR Cabriolet, XFR et XJ Supersport.

La XFR, c’est la Jaguar la plus rapide de tous les temps avec une vitesse maximale homologuée à 363,188 km/h. L’ancien record (349,4 km/) datait de 1992 et appartenait à la XJ220. Comme sa sœur XKR présentée dans sa variante cabriolet, la XFR est bridée à 250 km/h. Leur V8 suralimenté de 5 litres développe 510 ch pour 625 Nm de couple, ce qui lui permet de propulser le cabriolet de 0 à 100 km/h en 4,8 secondes et de 80 à 110 km/h en moins d’1,9 seconde! La légèreté de la carrosserie en aluminium contribue à limiter la consommation à 12,3 l/100 km pour 292 g/km de CO2.

Le troisième modèle présenté par Jaguar, c'est la XJ Supersport animée par le V6 diesel 3.0 ou le V8 suralimenté de 510 ch associé à la transmission automatique à 6 rapports avec commandes au volant.

Mad-Max Like 2010 Jaguar XJ Prototype Scooped During Testing

What appears to be in these spy photos a rejected proposal for a Mad Max movie car is in fact a prototype model of the forthcoming 2010 Jaguar XJ luxury sedan. The British firm plans to publish the first official photos of Jag's Mercedes-Benz S-Class rival in the second week of July but the company will most likely continue the final development tests during the summer as the car won't go on sale before the end of the year.

These photos don't tell as anything about the new XJ's design, but Jaguar's people are talking about a reinterpretation of the XF's styling in a larger package, meaning that the new XJ will look as much as the current model as the XF did with the S-Type.

While we don't have the details, the single teaser picture that Jaguar released in April does show an unusual styling treatment for the rear column that seems to house a wraparound glazing adorned with trim chroming.

The next XJ is said to use a re-engineered version of the current model's all-aluminum chassis riding on a similarly sized wheelbase as the current car. Once again, Jaguar will offer the XJ with a choice of standard or long wheelbase models while the engine range will include a 3.0-liter V6 diesel in 240HP and 275HP specifications and three gasoline units, a 238HP 3.0-liter V6 and a 5.0-liter V8 available in naturally aspirated and supercharged forms with 383HP and 510HP respectively.

In early July, Jaguar will lift the covers off its Mercedes-Benz S-Class rivaling, 2010 XJ luxury sedan, ahead of the car's market debut at the end of the year. Following the release of a set of teaser photos at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, Jaguar has now published a short video interview with the British firm's design chief, Ian Callum who talks about the design philosophy behind the new XJ. Among other things, Callum claims that with the new XJ sedan, Jag's design team "took 30 years of learning and put it into something that is very complete." Your Neighbor's Kid and his Power Wheels Never had a Chance: Motorized Toy Classics

Is your child a fan of driving 1950's Jags while wearing a Herringbone blazer and smoking a bubble pipe? Perhaps with a nice set of driving gloves and goggles? If so, or if you simply deem Power Wheels too plebeian for your progeny, then the Harrington Group and Pocket Classics have something for you (and the kid, should he be home from boarding school in Switzerland).

Both shops have a similar selection of classics such as a Porsche 356, Jaguar E-Type, 300 SL, Willys Jeep, and Bugatti T35 in which your child can stylishly cruise around the country club.

No word on price from the Harrington Group, but keep reading and you'll see how it could probably end up pretty steep. Each car features a composite chassis and body, "can be driven by anyone 6 and up" (hell yes!), is offered with automatic or manual transmissions, and is powered by various engines (from 50-cc up to racing kart engines). Also, the power unit can be upgraded over time.

The rest of the features make these little spoiled bastard-mobiles better than my daily driver (really...REALLY). Said features include: disc brakes, electric start, reverse gear, working lights / horn, rack and pinion steering, an optional leather interior, 6-month warranty, and a damn fitted car cover.

The Jag and Bugatti get some special options, too, other than available racing numbers; personalized plates, national flags, and carpet are on available on the Jaguar, while the Bugatti can get brass knockoffs and a brass brake handle (the basic one is poor-man's turned aluminum), a wood-rim steering wheel, racing exhaust, and white wall tires.
